GPS

GPS stands for Global Positioning System, which is a satellite-based navigation system that provides location and time information anywhere on or near the Earth's surface. It was developed by the United States Department of Defense in the 1970s for military use, but was later made available for civilian use as well.

GPS consists of a network of at least 24 satellites in orbit around the Earth, along with ground control stations and receivers that can receive and process signals from the satellites. The satellites transmit a constant stream of signals that contain information about their location and time, which can be used by GPS receivers to determine the receiver's own location, speed, and direction of movement.

GPS has many applications, including navigation for cars, ships, and airplanes, as well as for outdoor activities such as hiking and camping. It is also used for scientific research, surveying, and mapping, and for tracking the movement of vehicles and people.
